FIK 3SaturdayIt occurs to me that to keep FIK as a sustainable project, it might be a good idea to expand it from being a one-person project to a team project. I met Ruby at the second FIK when it was at Art For Grabs in August, and she and her good friend Jae Han both liked the project so much that they volunteered to help out anytime I re-install Fruit in Kind. So Ruby's wonderful, and she understand the project so completely, so that Saturday I welcomed Ruby on board the FIK community art project, as it's first new project team member. So Ruby and Fatin came over in the morning to help me setup and arrange the installation. (Ruby arranges a pretty awesomely artistic fruit box), and later we took turns watching the booth and checking out the other sights at the festival. We also sampled a lot of nachos. We saw 2 walk-in fruit donations on Saturday from Khairunissa and Arson, who are both very talented young artists. Arson did a Butoh performance at the festival with his friend Kuan Nam, which was really beautiful, erotic and just awesome. At the end of the day, Ruby, Fatin and Abang Fauzi (a ceramics artist from Terusi Studio, who shared the booth with us that weekend) helped out in packing up the fruits, which the very awesome Jae Han came to pick up and deliver to the children of Rumah Kasih. After that, Ruby, Fatin and I bundled up into my car to go hunting for Sunday's durians..! ...It turns out that we actually just MISSED durian season (!) and with the off-season prices, there was no way we'd be able to buy enough durians for a home, where there'd be enough durian to go around for everyone. We went to the durian stall in Ampang, then we went to the durian grand central in SS2, PJ, then we decided to go home. I am determined that the durians will have their day in FIK, just maybe later when they're back in season in November/December... To say the least, I'm still quite disappointed about the durians... SundayThe next morning it started Really Pouring at around 6am in the morning. The morning market was Drenched. The fruit were Drenched. I got drenched, and then when Ruby, Fatin and Jae Han joined me later to help me at the market, we ALL got DRENCHED! Very luckily though, our stuff which we'd left overnight at the booth didn't get 'Drenched' at all. The rain continued on until around late morning, but it didn't stop Kuan Nam from stopping by again today to drop off a very beautiful selection of apples, oranges, tomatoes and avocadoes (the first avocados for Fruit in Kind! :) ) Arson also came by to make a SECOND round of fruit donations (Thank you Arson! :D . Later in the evening, my good friend Aaron came by with a Gorgeous rock melon to add to the installation, and then stayed on to help us wrap and pack everything back up into my car at the end. mONDAYMonday morning started out with a quick trip to the supermarket to fulfill Shin's pledge of blueberries and strawberries, just before heading out to Bangsa Ria with the rest of the fruit. |
