Friday, 27 February 2015 Fruit in Kind in the morning is always a tiny bit scary, because you just never know if/what fruit donations you are going to get. So it was really wonderful when I strolled into Hin Bus after lunch with Gabija, and we were greeted by these awesome students from One Academy Penang arranging their group donation on the gallery floor. They were actually arranging the fruit this way to make a photo documentation of what they'd brought for the installation, and the fruit was meant to later be put into Fruit in Kind. However, I didn't have the heart to destroy their beautiful work, so I just left their installation the way it was for the rest of the day. They also had brought so much fruit anyway, that we just used the extras that didn't end up in their own installation, to put into Fruit in Kind. So we got 2 fruit installations in one day instead of just 1! I seem to have a knack for being absent when fruit donors do come in, because I didn't get the chance to meet Freddie in person to thank him for these huuuuge tanduks of bananas, pineapples and pomelo that we found left on the floor for us. Gabija told me later that Freddie is a regular supporter of Hin Bus and the arts, and that the bananas came from his family's farm back on the mainland. I felt it only right to give them the place of honour, right at the centre of the installation. Here's what Fruit in Kind looked like by the end of the day: |
